Renewable Energy Certificates EPA Recognizes Debra Lynn Dadd The Environmental Protection Agency's Green Power Partnership has added Debra to their list of Green Power Partners for her purchase of 100% solar renewable energy certificates for her Florida home office. "Voluntary green power customers like Debra Lynn Dadd are making a real difference environmentally by purchasing green power and supporting the development of new power plants that generate electricity with significantly less air pollution and no net increase in greenhouse gas emissions," said Matt Clouse, U.S. EPA. In January 2006, the EPA added Debra to their Green Power Leadership Club which honors Green Power Partners that have made an exemplary green power purchase that significantly exceeds minimum Green Power Partnership purchase requirements. Renewable energy certificates (aka green tags, green energy certificates, or tradable renewable certificates) were created by the EPA to make it easy for homeowners to participate in using renewable energy. Each certificate represents the delivery of a specific amount of renewable power (usually one megawatt-hour) into a regional or national energy "grid". This displaces the non-renewable fossil fuels that would have otherwise been used with non-polluting energy from solar, wind, biomass, and other renewable sources. The result is a benefit to the environment that is the same as it would be if you installed solar panels or wind turbines on your own home. When you purchase green energy certificates, you create demand for renewable energy and support the development of facilities to supply it. When you buy green energy certificates equivalent to the amount of energy you use in your home, you can completely offset the environmental effects of your own energy use, because someone, somewhere along the grid, is using the renewable energy paid for by your certificate. To find out how much environmental pollution is created by your own home energy use, use the EPA Power Profiler. Purchase of green energy certificates could offset part or even all of that pollution at very little cost. When purchasing renewable energy certificates, look for the The companies on this page offer green energy certificates available to energy customers in every state across America. An average customer can offset 100% of their energy usage for electricity for less than $15/month. Call the companies to see what they are currently offering--it may be different from what is on the website. Renewable energy sources include solar, wind, and biomass (toxic methane gas from landfills diverted to create electricity). Certificate prices vary depending on the blend of energy sources.

This is a great basic primer about green power for both individuals and businesses. "Green power" includes The different types of green power products-- green power electricity products, renewable energy certificates, and on-site generation of alternative energy--are clearly explained. Use the Power Profiler to find out the mix of energy sources used in your geographical area, the effects of your own energy use on air pollution, and how you can get started with green power.
Provides up-to-date information on green power providers, product offerings, consumer protection issues, and policies affecting green power markets. Operated and maintained by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory for the U.S. Department of Energy.
A voluntary certification program for renewable electricity products. It sets consumer protection and environmental standards for electricity products, and verifies that Green-e certified products meet these standards. Certified products may display the Green-e logo. Click on "Your Electric Choices" to find out where to purchase green energy certificates in your state. This user-friendly site has lots of information on the health and environmental effects of non-renewable energy, and a great dictionary that defines all the confusing energy terms.
General
Renewable energy is 100% wind.
Renewable energy is primarily wind, with about 1 percent solar.
Renewable energy certificates specifically created to offset carbon monoxide emissions from your vehicle. Choose a certificate appropriate to the size of your car, priced affordably from $21.95 to $74.95 per year. Discounts are given for multiple car purchases and a discount "lifetime" package is available (based on 10 yrs of driving 12,000 miles per year). These offsets are offered directly by a company that develops and builds alternative energy projects that help fight global warming and reduce our need for fossil-fuels. An independent auditor ensures their energy is green and they only sell what they produce. Certificates are printed on recycled paper and come with a static cling decal for your car.
Renewable energy is 100% wind.

Renewable energy certificates that give you an opportunity to offset the carbon monoxide emissions produced from driving your car--a key cause of global warming. Your purchase of a certificate, appropriate to size of your car, reduces the environmental impact of your driving by funding clean energy projects that directly offset your car's carbon emissions. Priced from $29.95 to $79.95 per year. Certificates are printed on recycled paper and come with a static cling decal for your car.
