Departure

As the newlywed couple leaves the wedding festivities to start their new life together, it has been traditional to shower the couple with something as they leave. In ancient times, wheat was used, as it was believed that the fertility of the wheat berry seeds would be transferred to the couple. Throwing rice also has the same symbolic meaning. As time passed, grain and nuts coated in sugar were thrown for the same reason, which eventually evolved into throwing paper confetti.

Not wanting the mess left behind by any of these, we chose to be showered with bubbles! We gave each guest a bottle of bubbles they could take home with them and everyone had a fine time blowing bubbles along our front path as we walked through them from house to car. What fun!
