Next week is Halloween, so I've got some tips for you today for making the holiday both fun and eco-friendly. My favorite Halloween activity is always carving the traditional Jack-o-Lantern. I love the "inner light" that shines through and the pumpkin biodegrades back into the earth... A reader sent me a video this week of Marianne Williamson saying that social scientists have found it takes only 11% to make a shift in the whole. When I heard that, I thought of the phrase "majority rules", but in fact, it doesn't. I can see this right in the field of green products. Those of us who have been working to make the marketplace greener are far fewer than 51% of consumers, yet green products are really going mainstream now, more and more. Majority may rule when it comes to voting, but it takes only a small percentage united in action to make a change in the world. And thank you all for your continued participation in my Green Living Q&A blog. Your questions and comments are a big help to a lot of readers, who write to say "thank you" every day.
Debra :-) P.S. My houses are still for sale... I'm in San Francisco this week while my husband is painting the interior of the house we live in with Benjamin Moore Eco Spec Low-VOC paint. Someone asked me if I would rent out the smaller house as a vacation rental for people with MCS. We need to sell the house, but maybe a group would like to buy it as a time share? Waterless Car Washing Hi Debra, How to clean wedgewood china?!? I recently inherited my mothers wedgewood china and handcut lead crystal. In the mid 80's, it went thru a fire and suffered smoke damage. She didn't clean it before packing it because they had very little time to get their things and get out. She said she would clean it when she unpacked it. Well, she never unpacked them because they never moved into an apartment big enough to display her china and crystal. Venetian Blinds Our venetian blinds get dirty from the dust and debris that comes from the burning cane fields. Without taking the blinds down, what do your readers suggest we clean them with? steam cleaners for carpets can anyone recommend a good steam cleaner for carpets, that does not require the use of commercial detergents or cleaning solutions ? I've looked at the major brand names (Hoover, Dirt Devil etc), but they all seem to require use of their cleaning solution. I'd prefer a machine that used just plain steam. AFM cleaning products Debra Bodum electric water kettle Debra on line pricing vs in store I printed out pricing for some popular green products that were available to purchase online.I was amazed at how much less expensive they were in my local Whole Foods and of course no shipping cost. The other day I noticed the apartment maintenance department filled the playground area with shredded up tires to make it less dangerous when kids fall. Is this safe?
