Happy Earth Day! Of course, here in this newsletter and on my websites, every day is Earth Day! Today I'm celebrating the completion of the transformaion of our car to one that runs on used vegetable oil! Yes, just straight vegetable oil (recycled, too!) that we get for free from local restaurants. Well, my husband does go have lunch when he picks it up to give them a bit of exchange, but he gets about $40 worth of nonpolluting fuel for an $8 lunch. Now that's a good deal. To honor Earth Day, I've included a link to a charming fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen, which demonstrates the importance of preserving nature and all living things. And, of course, the ever-popular Green Living Q&A blog. Debra :-) P.S. The winner of the White Lotus Home Free Mattress Giveaway is Cheryl Durr Patry of Massachusetts. Congratulations Cheryl! (I haven't driven it yet, because I'm in San Francisco and the car is in Florida). He bought a kit and did the conversion in just a few hours. He's driving around now on FREE, non-polluting, renewable fuel, and you can too. Total cost, including the car, was less than $1200. See our "veggie oil car" and find out how Larry did it himself... * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * THE NIGHTENGALE In 1844, Hans Christian Andersen wrote a charming fairy tale that contains a powerful message about why Nature needs to be honored and preserved, and the mechanics of the industrial world are no match for living things. At the time Andersen wrote this story, the Industrial Revolution was just beginning in Denmark. The agricultural life Andersen was born into was giving way to a way of life defined by machines and factories. Even then, Andersen could see the effects of industrialization on life, and felt compelled to give a warning. A fitting message for us all, 164 years later. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * GREEN LIVING Q&A BLOG Here are the questions and new comments posted through yesterday.
