I'm taking it easy today after last week's storm and hope you're taking some vacation too before summer ends. Though we weren't in the hardest hit area, wondering where tropical storm Fay was going to wander next had our attention throughout the weekend. But we are fine and dry today. Today's newsletter is shorter than usual, but there are lots of interesting things on my Green Living Q&A blog. I learn something new every week! We swapped signed copies of our latest books and I have to say, her's was very impressive. Home Safe Home is a must have book. At over 400 pages, it is full of useful information on how to make your home a safe and non-toxic place to live. Not only that, many of the suggestions are big-time money savers. As you know, I am constantly reviewing my own home, doing an inventory of toxins, trying to find alternatives at every turn. In her book, Debra has done all the work for you. If you want a safer environment in your home, buy the book today. It will pay you back for years to come." -- Dr. Mark Schauss, author of Achieving Victory Over a Toxic World

Does anyone have any suggestions for filler material? I've priced 100% cotton or 100% wool batting that I could build layer upon layer, but am wondering if there is any thick cushion material out there that is no full of poly..? Nut Grass To let my land regenerate, I let our 3/4 acre garden area rest for a year - now I am invaded with nutgrass! I have tilled until I'm worn out and seem to be making NO progress with it. I've gardened organically and don't want to begin spraying chemicals to kill it. Has anyone had success combatting nutgrass naturally. My garden is FULL of it! 18/0 stainless steel flatware Dear Debra, Dry Cleaned Thrift Shop SIlk Hi Debra, as I become more aware of chemicals in my environment, I am aware that some pretty silk shirts I have purchased at high end thrift shops in NYC were dry cleaned. I've actually washed them but I can still smell the dry cleaning chemical. Is there any good way to remove it or is it, like fabric softener, bonded to the fabric for a long time? Bisphenol A (BPA) in our bottles and cans cabinet refacing I want to reface my kitchen cabinet doors inexpensively and safely. A salesman said that using thermafoil vinyl is the way to go. Has anyone used that in their kitchen? Is it durable 10 years from now? Is it safe-emmisions, etc.? Bonobos, Kids and Being Green I'd like to share with all of you a great way to introduce your children to the green movement. Custom Nontoxic Paints, Sealants, Adhesives, etc I came across this company while looking for a nontoxic adhesive for one of my consulting clients...
