New Apple products are now halogen flame retardant free and PVC free. I just bought the latest MacBook (aluminum model), and was amazed that when I opened it up to change out the memory chips, the circuit board had no odor. Previous models had smelled very toxic for many months. I have to say that I have not turned it on yet, so I don't know if when it warms up a bit and the tiny blower turns on, it won't smell at all, but it will probably be much, much better than older models.
