It is not perfectly safe. Keep preferably a minimum of 25 or 30 feet away, and disconnect power or turn off completely when not in use. Hopefully antenna is pointed in the other direction.

I am currently working with the power off to feel incredibly better. I know that more and more radiation is filling our airs and any little bit seemingly small or insignificant is adding to the already highly stressed airwaves we all are living in. What seems to be common advice for personal area protection is something I saw from Debra's resource list which is like a Faraday cage, and I saw a bed canopy sold ...about $700.00. Other items sold I don't know about. Turning off all the power to the house is working for me.

The first thing, I would go with my "mom radar", the gut and it sounds like your alarm has gone off. No way does that senerio sound safe to me as a mom but of course checking the facts would be warranted. Just feng shui wise, seems icky. How has she been behaving, have you noticed any behavior or health issues/changes since the dish was installed? I think it's pretty oustanding that you are aware and willing to look into as a parent so kudos for that. Do you have an EMF tester like Debra recommends? The satellite dish is a receiver, simply picking up signals that are everywhere anyway, it is not generating anything. There should be no danger at all. Also those signals it is picking up are very weak, that is why a big dish is used to concentrate it. (My DH is an electronics design engineer and confirmed this.)

I am sitting in an airport as well right now. :) So no books near me either! Yet, from my understanding...When you have a satellite it is just collecting the radiation and not distributing it so it is not as big of a problem...
