Induction Cooktops

QUESTION:

We are renovating and will be putting in a new kitchen. I've heard wonderful things about induction cooktops but am not sure about the EMF emissions. I understand that only the size of the pot is heated and should not be any emissions that would be harmful. Anyone familiar with these? Thanks!

COMMENTS:

From Mary Cordaro, Bau-Biologist and creator of The Mary Cordaro Collection of Organic Mattresses and Bedding:

Unfortunately, although electric cook tops eliminate the aldehydes, carbon monoxide and other toxic by-products from natural gas and propane, they do indeed pose problems from EMF's. You can expect to be standing close to high EMF's at the stove while cooking. The levels and locations of EMF's will vary from stove to stove. However, you can purchase a gauss meter, so that you can pick the best places to stand. Using the gauss meter, you can locate the highest/lowest levels, and for some stoves, you can then simply taking a step or two to remove yourself from the hightest levels of EMF's. While shopping for a cook top, I suggest you take an FW Bell 4080 Gauss meter with you and actually test the units before purchasing. You can google for the best price on the meter.
