Mercury Thermometers and Your Family's Health

I want to pass along to you a pamphlet I just found called "Mercury Thermometers and Your Family's Health".

I knew that mercury is a dangerous chemical, but didn't really understand how hazardous a broken thermometer can be, how to properly dispose of a mercury thermometer, or that non-mercury thermometers are available (I actually have a digital thermometer, but didn't buy it as a mercury alternative). All this is covered in this easy-to-read pamphlet.

Debra :-)

COMMENTS:

This is a great article. Several years ago I had a mercury thermometer break in our bedroom. We had no idea how to clean it up, so we called poison control. They also new very little and did not even advise us to ventilate the room. We had no idea it was airborn, but we threw out the sheets that it had spilled on. The mercury also bonded to both of our wedding rings and we were told they were ruined and would need to be replaced. We ended up finding a jeweler that offered to somehow melt the mercury out of the gold. We no longer have mercury thermometers in our house. I wish I had this article back then. It sounds like there is a lot more awareness out there than there was when we had our incident, which is great.
