Non-Toxic Propane

QUESTION:

Is there a propane that would be considered less toxic, or non-toxic?

DEBRA'S ANSWER:

I don't know of one. My understanding is that what makes a difference is the completeness of combustion of the gas--less complete combustion produces more toxic combustion by-products.

Readers?

Debra :-)

COMMENTS:

Propane itself is a blend of incredible nasty "esthers" that happen to burn real well. There really are no "safe" propane (which includes butane and some natural gasses) products. If you are all sensitive to propane never use it indoors, not even one of the so-called "non-venting" catalytic heaters. The byproducts of combustion (or catalysis) will do you no good. Ask me about my migraines ... :-( - We had to switch to an electric stove and electric dryer because we could not have propane or natural gas in the living space at all.

For safety, use propane only in WELL VENTILATED areas and remember that is is heavier than air and will "pool" or puddle in low-lying areas, remaining there as a fire or explosion hazard for some time.

If you are at all sensitive, restrict all gas appliances to areas away from and sealed off from living spaces.
