Oxygen bleach

QUESTION:

Now that Oxigen bleaches are all over the place (even 99c stores have them...) I wonder which ones are really effective because the prices really vary...Dalia

DEBRA'S ANSWER:

I contacted Natural Choices Home Safe Products, a small company who created their own oxygen bleach based products, and asked them to respond to your question. Click on COMMENTS to read their excellent answer.

COMMENTS:

It is hard for consumers to tell what they are buying as many manufacturers do not disclose what their level of active ingredients are on the label. The only way to get this information is to contact the company and ask for a copy of their Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS for short) which they have to by law provide to you. If you look in section 2 which lists the ingredients it should tell you what type of oxygen bleach (sodium percarbonate or sodium perborate)is used and a percentage. The highest quality oxygen bleaches contain at least 80% bleach.

www.oxygenbleach.homestead.com/files/ has some good information on various products.

COMMENT FROM DEBRA: Dalia--I think the kind of detailed consumer comparison you are looking for is at the link above. It's the best summary I've seen.

What do you mean by "bleach", chlorine?

COMMENT FROM DEBRA: "Bleach" is simply a whitening agent. Chlorine bleach whitens with chlorine. Oxygen bleach whitens with oxygen.

I just recently purchased some Stain Solver™ - marketed by Ask The Builder (Tim Carter) to remove significant stains from my unsealed kitchen-counter grout. The product worked as promised. I now have white grout again! I also used it to remove some stains from clothing. I would recommend it highly.
