Nuts

Nuts are a great starting point for making sweets. They contain fewer carbohydrates than flour and those carbs are well-balanced with protein and fat (protein or fat combined with carbs reduces the blood sugar spike that happens when you eat carbs). They will also help balance out the blood sugar rise that may be the result of whatever sweetener you add to them. Plus, you get some nutrition from your sweet treat instead of just eating empty calories.
