Tangerine Ice
My husband and I have these wonderful tangerine trees in our backyard and right now they are in full fruit. We actually have more tangerines than we can eat and we are giving them away to all takers. I made a simple tangerine ice with no sweetener at all. I just made it in the freezer, without an ice cream maker. You can use this method with any fresh fruit juice or pureed fruit.
6 fresh, ripe tangerines (at least) - Juice the fruit and include plenty of pulp.
- Pour the juice into a freezer-safe container, so it is about one-inch deep. Use several containers if necessary for the amount of juice you have. It needs to be shallow.
- Put it in the freezer and set a timer for one hour.
- After one hour, remove the container from the freezer. You will see little ice crystals are starting to form around the edge. With a fork, scrape these ice crystals from the sides and break them up.
- Repeat step three.
- Repeat step four.
- Repeat step three.
- Repeat step four.
- At this point, your ice will probably be fairly frozen. Break it up as much as you can with the fork.
- Serve immediately, or put it in a covered container for storage in the freezer. It will freeze hard, but you'll be able to break it up again when you are ready to serve it.
This is wonderful with a bit of sparkling water poured over the top.
