My husband told me this morning that he used my pumice stone on his feet. I'm not crazy about sharing personal items, like toiletries. Is a pumice stone one of those things that habor germs? And is there a way to clean a pumice stone or should I buy a new one?
PS I am new to this website and I LOVE it!

Readers? Any info on this?
This isn't exactly what you were looking for, but with my husband, I'd share just about anything because we are a closed biological unit. Outside of that relationship, well, ick.

Thanks Helen - While I dearly love my husband and we share a lot, I think I am going to give him that pumice stone and buy myself a new one! One thing I will admit - I am somewhat of a germ-a-phob.

I would imagine that the pores in pumice stone would tend to harbour bacteria. Boiling it or submersing it in Hydrogen Peroxide for a while should kill the bacteria though. Both substances should be able to penetrate into the pores - and the bubbles help clean them out in addition to killing the germs.

EW! I agree with you...sharing some personal items, even with a partner, is not what I'd do.
As far as the pumice stone, you can soak it in enough water to cover it along with ten drops of Tea Tree Oil. It is a powerful antibiotic. I use it for many things, even for cleaning toothbrushes.

Thanks All! I squirted the pumice stone with peroxide, let it bubble a bit and then poured boiling water over it. I just bought tea tree oil which I think I'll use on the pumice stone also and this will be my first use of it! I hear tea tree oil is great for many things. I did buy myself a new pumice stone and gave my husband the cleaned/disinfected one. Nice of me, huh!
